The Sheboygan County Warming Center, a beacon of warmth and safety, was conceived by community member Ken Rishel, who recognized the urgent need for such a sanctuary in Sheboygan County. Inspired by the existence of warming centers in other locales and driven by a deep belief that no one should be left in the cold, Rishel took action.
Collaborating with like-minded individuals from his church, the community, and Daryl Mangeri from the Salvation Army, Rishel's vision came to life seven years ago. Initially housed at the Salvation Army and now operating in the lower church hall of St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, the center stands as a testament to the power of community solidarity, offering free shelter, food, and a promise of safety to those most in need during the harsh winter months.
